21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Welcome to the first AOM 21 days of Prayer and Fasting campaign in 2024. Prayer and fasting are very important spiritual disciplines. Prayer and fasting do not bribe God or twist His hand to do what He does not want to do. Rather it is about bringing into the Earth what is already done in the Heaven (Matthew 6:10). There are many examples of prayer and fasting in the Old Testament: Moses went for 40 days; Elijah for 40 days; Daniel for 21 days; the Jews for 3 days and many more. In the New Testament, there are also many examples of prayer and fasting as well: Jesus went for 40 days; Paul fasted and prayed, and the early Church fasted and prayed for days. The bible said in Acts 13:2–3 (NLT) ‘One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Dedicate Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.’

What is praying? Praying is a two-way communication between you and God. Your focus in prayer is not so much about what you want God to do for you. It is about drawing close to God with a primary desire to know Jesus more intimately. Prayer transforms your heart and reveals the will of God to you. When your heart is aligned, then your asking will be according to His will and biblical but not selfish.

What is fasting? Fasting is the most neglected of all the spiritual discipline. The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting should always be about eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose. Your fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do. We recommend closing your fasting every day. You can go till 6pm each day, or 3pm or 12 noon. The point is that you skip at least a meal and use that period of the meal to pray more than before. If you are a pregnant woman, a nursing mother, someone with eating disorders or some chronic diseases, we recommend that you do not fast from food, but you can still participate in prayer and fasting by eliminating some distractions from your life that will help you focus more on God in prayers.

In this year of GREATER GLORY, we are believing God for amazing move of the Holy Spirit in our lives, families, Churches, cities, and the nations. In the next 21 days, we would like you to daily pray that God will fill you afresh unto overflowing with His Holy Spirit; pray that God will anoint you with the oil of gladness and cause His river to flow from your belly in overflowing measures to impact your world for Jesus Christ. We pray the strength of God and His grace be multiplied unto you in greater measures throughout this period of prayer and fasting. Love you!
